Originally it was my love of gardening that brought me to this work as a wedding florist with a particular interest and focus on wild and natural wedding flowers. As well as growing vegetables and herbs, I began to develop a deep interest in growing wild native flowers. I simply wanted to spend more time in the garden as I became aware of what unique and wonderful wild Irish flowers could be grown in our climate.
I also have a creative streak that was yearning to express itself. Wild flower arrangements and bouquets became a natural outlet for this creative drive. So, I did a few friends weddings and got good feedback. Hungry for more, I started teaching myself the craft of wild flower arranging. I learnt that Wild flowers behave differently in a bouquet. Their wildness needs to be acknowledged and not tamed. I can put a structure on them but the individual personalities of the flowers always shines through and it is this which makes them so attractive and unique as part of a wedding bouquet.
I attended a course in London with Zita Elze as I really admired how she retained the “wildness” of her bridal bouquets with minimal structure and formality. I loved her creative work and sought to emulate that style and so this is what I focus on.
